I've written and published several books. Two New Zealand family-travel guides — Where Shall We Take the Kids? (New Holland Publishers NZ) and The Guide to Travelling in New Zealand with the Family (Upstart Press) — and a children's book, Gran's Magic and the Midgetagoo, which I published myself. So I've seen this business from both sides: working with publishers, and doing everything on my own.
I've also lived the other side of it — as a publisher. I founded and ran my own fully digital magazine, the first of its kind to become a member of the Magazine Publishers Association of New Zealand. I've been the one commissioning writers, managing the schedule, and sending the invoices as well as chasing them. And before Writion, I ran my own bookkeeping business — everything from day-to-day accounts through to final accounts and tax returns. So the invoicing and the deadlines in Writion aren't guesswork; they're built from years of doing exactly this work — the part of writing no one sees.
One more thing, because it matters for where your data lives: I built Writion myself. I hold a recent Bachelor of Information Sciences, and I designed and developed the platform — so when I tell you your writing and your earnings are handled carefully, I'm telling you about something I built with my own hands, for my own writing first, and only then opened up to yours.
I tell you all this not to list credentials, but because you should know exactly who's behind a tool you're thinking of trusting with your work, and your income. If a website won't tell you plainly who made it, that's a fair reason to be wary. So: it's me.
