Terms of Use

Effective: 1 January 2026 · Updated: June 2026 · Writion New Zealand Limited, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using Writion, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to all of these terms, you must not use the service. These terms form a binding legal agreement between you and Writion (operated by Writion New Zealand Limited, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand).

2. Service Description

Writion is a proprietary project management platform designed for writers in New Zealand and beyond. It enables users to manage writing projects, track publishing stages, store document references, manage contacts, and track project finances. Access requires a valid approved account and is subject to your subscription plan.

3. Intellectual Property — Platform & Design

Writion and all of its components are the exclusive intellectual property of Writion New Zealand Limited and are protected under the Copyright Act 1994 (New Zealand), the Copyright Act 1968 (Australia), and applicable international intellectual property laws.

The following are owned exclusively by Writion and may not be copied, reproduced, adapted, distributed, or used in any form without prior written permission:

  • The Writion name, logo, tagline ("Write more. Manage less."), brand identity and visual design
  • The structure, layout, user interface design and user experience of the platform
  • All source code, software architecture, database schemas and underlying technical implementation
  • All written content, help text, stage descriptions, industry directory data and onboarding materials
  • The concept, workflow and feature set of the platform as a whole

4. Prohibited Uses — Copying & Competing Services

You expressly agree that you will not, directly or indirectly:

  • Replicate or clone Writion. You may not use your access to Writion to create, develop, or assist in developing any product, service, or application that is substantially similar in design, structure, feature set, or purpose to Writion.
  • Reverse engineer the platform. You may not decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, structure, or underlying algorithms of Writion.
  • Scrape or harvest content. You may not use automated tools, bots, or scripts to extract, copy or reproduce any part of Writion's interface, content, data structures or functionality.
  • Resell or sublicense access. You may not resell, sublicense, white-label, or otherwise grant third-party access to Writion or any component of it.
  • Use Writion for competitive intelligence. You may not use the platform to gather information for the purpose of building or improving a competing product or service.
  • Remove or obscure ownership notices. You may not remove, alter or obscure any copyright, trademark or proprietary notice displayed within Writion.

Breach of any of the above prohibitions may result in immediate account termination and may give rise to legal action for damages, injunctive relief, or both under New Zealand law, Australian law, and applicable international law.

5. Permitted Use

You may use Writion solely for your own personal, professional writing and publishing management. Your account is personal and non-transferable. Any use of Writion outside of these terms is not permitted.

6. Your Content

You retain full ownership of all content you enter into Writion — including your project details, goals, calendar entries, notes, contacts and financial records. By using the service, you grant Writion a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and process your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We do not use your content for any other purpose, and we do not share it with third parties.

7. Payments & Refunds

Subscription fees are charged as agreed at sign-up. All subscription prices are displayed and charged in New Zealand Dollars (NZD), for both New Zealand and Australian users. If you are outside New Zealand, your bank or card provider will convert the amount at their own rate on the day. Writion New Zealand Limited is not currently registered for GST, so the price shown is the full amount payable and no GST is added at checkout. We will update our terms and pricing if our GST status changes.

Automatic renewal. Premium subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each term — monthly or annually, whichever you chose — until you cancel. The amount and date of your next payment are always shown in your billing settings, so you can see what is coming before it happens.

How to cancel. You can cancel at any time, yourself, without contacting us: go to Account Settings → Manage subscription. You do not need to give a reason, and there is no cancellation fee. You can also update your card or download your invoices from the same place.

What happens when you cancel. Your subscription stops renewing, and your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. After that your account reverts to the free Starter plan — your projects and data remain, subject to Starter's limits. Cancelling part-way through a term does not, by itself, entitle you to a refund of the remainder of that term.

Refunds. Refund requests are considered on a case-by-case basis — email support@writion.co.nz and we will look at it properly. We would rather sort something out than have you feel stuck.

Your consumer rights. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 (New Zealand), or under the Australian Consumer Law where it applies to you. Those rights sit alongside anything set out here, and where there is any conflict, they prevail.

Founding Member pricing. The Founding Member rate ($50 per year, or $5 per month) applies to your first 12 months on Premium only. At the end of that period your subscription automatically continues at our standard rate — currently $99 per year, or $9.90 per month — unless you cancel beforehand. We will email you at least 30 days before your Founding Member rate ends, so you have time to decide. Your Founding Member number is permanent and is not affected by any change of plan: it recognises that you joined early, and is not an ongoing discount. Founding Member pricing is limited to the first 1,000 members who upgrade to Premium.

8. Account Termination

Writion reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if you breach these terms, engage in prohibited conduct, or behave in a manner that is harmful to other users or the platform. You may also close your account at any time — either directly within the application, in Account Settings, or by contacting us at support@writion.co.nz. When you delete your account from within the application, it enters a 30-day recovery period during which you may reactivate it; after that period, your data is permanently removed.

9. Limitation of Liability

Writion is provided on a best-efforts basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Writion is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform, including data loss, service interruptions, or loss of business.

10. Industry Directory

The Writion Industry Directory is provided as a resource for writers in New Zealand. Writion New Zealand Limited does not endorse, recommend or take responsibility for any business or individual listed. Users are advised to carry out appropriate due diligence — including checking references, credentials and terms — before engaging any service provider or entering into any contractual or financial arrangement.

Inclusion in the Industry Directory is at the sole discretion of Writion New Zealand Limited. We reserve the right to add, edit or remove any listing at any time and without notice. Listing in the directory does not constitute a commercial relationship between Writion and the listed business.

11. Affiliate Programmes & Referral Links

Writion participates in affiliate and referral programmes. This means that some links within the Writion application and website — including links to third-party services such as Wise — may be affiliate links. If you click one of these links and sign up for or purchase a service, Writion New Zealand Limited may receive a commission or referral reward at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate relationships do not influence the services we recommend. We only link to tools we genuinely believe are useful to writers. All affiliate relationships are disclosed in good faith in accordance with applicable advertising standards in New Zealand.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. Continued use of Writion after notice of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or your use of Writion shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts, regardless of the country from which you access the service.

If you are an Australian consumer, nothing in these terms limits any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010).
